SuperAntiSpyware Portable Released

SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes are my two main utilities for cleaning systems and just this week, SuperAntiSpyware released a portable version of their software which will help me sort out systems easier. Basically, the portable version runs without any installation and works just as well from my initial tests (not that many as of yet, been mostly a reformat & misc hardware diagnostic week whereas usually I spend my time cleaning spyware it seems these days).

Linux Live USB Creator

Linux Live USB Creator lets you create a Live Linux USB drive from an ISO of various Linux distributions, similiar to UNetbootin but has one major difference. With this package you can also run the key within Windows thanks to virtualization from VirtualBox. Other features are available as well with more under construction.

Tech Fix: Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied

So, a while back I had a strange problem. I had meant to write about it before now, but life has been kind of strange & busy. Anyway, I had a business with split Vista & XP machines, most of which are laptops. The main machine that stays put is a Windows XP desktop and they wanted to add a printer to it that everyone else could connect to and use. However, it was giving an annoying error of "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied" regardless of what I did on the Windows XP machine. It all led back to that one machine as with the printer on one of the Vista laptops, the printing worked fine (but having a printer hooked up to a mobile laptop isn't really helpful). Continue for the solution that I stumbled upon after a while of beating my head on the desk...

Started listening to John Hodgman's new book

Looking forward to listening to all of it, but I've just started John Hodgman - More Information Than You Require (Audio Book). The audio book is slightly modified from the book since John has guest readers involved, which is an interesting concept and seems to work quite well for the book and John's humor.

BlueScreenView by NirSoft

BlueScreenView by NirSoft is a handy little program I stumbled upon a while back. It loads the windows crash files and shows you USEFUL information from them. Without needing to have the Windows Debugger installed like with WhoCrashed and a bunch of others out there that I tried.

Probably the most annoying part is that I fought with a computer for a while one day that I couldn't get the debugger installed on until I found this program. Then realized I already had it on my USB drive as I have the full NirSoft collection on it. Oh well, I know it's there now :)

New Asus Netbook being released

I just need to win the lottery so I can afford to spend that much on a new system heh. An Asus 1201n would be cool to have.

The Asus 1201n features a 12.1-inch LCD with a HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels using nVidia Ion graphics (HDMI output supporting 1080p apparently too). Not only that, it's got an Intel Atom 330 Dual core processor (1.6GHz), a major upgrade from the single core 270/280 Atom's that most netbooks come with and what usually turns me off from them. Also, you get 2GB of RAM that you can upgrade to 3 maximum. Other built in stuff include the fairly standard 250GB hard drive, 802.11n WiFi, & not quite as common Bluetooth. It's also got 3 USB ports as well as Ethernet and VGA.

Rest in peace Patrick Wayne Swayze

Just heard the news that Patrick Swayze has died. Shame, was hoping he could pull through the cancer that he seemed to be fighting. His last TV Series "The Beast" was unfortunately canceled, I thought it was pretty good for the episodes I saw, I just didn't have the time to catch up on all of them. He had a pretty long list of hit movies including Dirty Dancing, Road House, Ghost, Point Break & others I'm sure I forgot. RIP Patrick, least now you won't be suffering from the pain.
